AirPods Max goes silent on Zoom or Skype

I have recently purchased AirPods Max and I have tried to use them with Zoom or Skype. Everything works fine for like 10 minutes, then there is silence in the AirPods and after a while (maybe 30s or so) sound comes back and is there for a while (couple of minutes) then disappears again an so on...

Hey there apdam,

Thanks for reaching out. We'd like to see how we can help with your AirPods Max question. We can understand the concern when you hear no sound temporarily.

We'd first like to ensure that you only experience this issue using these specific third party apps. If you are experiencing this issue with Apple apps as well, please let us know which apps and the behavior.

Do you have this issue when setting up the AirPods Max with a different device as show here:

Connect and use your AirPods Max

Set up AirPods Max with your Mac and other Bluetooth devices

With that info, we'll have a much better understanding and how to help.

Take care.

I have the same or similar issues. It does not work with Skype for Business on my iMac. All other headphones (Logitech, Jabra, Sony, Plantronics, etc. are working fine with the Bluetooth connection of the iMac). How can this not work with Apple's airpods Max? I am very disappointed!

Hi,

I do not have any issues with setting up AirPods Max and they work fine (at least by what I have managed to test) with my iPhone 11Pro.

I was trying to listen to the Apple Music from my iMac today and it seems like AirPods Max were working fine (I have listened for more than half an hour without dropping the audio). So it seems like the problem is somehow connected to using Zoom or Skype (I do not use any other 3rd party apps). I hope I will manage to test it also with my MacBook Pro (2017) and see if it is any better.

I did not have any issues using Beats Studio 3 with my iMac, which is strange in a way.

The second thing is that I have read the news that Apple is releasing new version of macOS (11.2) shortly and it addresses some Bluetooth issues.

I hope that the issue would be resolved, since it is painful to pay 650 EUR (in Europe) for headphones and not being able to use basic functionality like having conference calls, especially in the time of pandemic.

Thanks for the reply. Let's continue to see how we can get this issue resolved.

When you get the chance to test your AirPods Max with your Macbook Pro, please test the two apps that are experiencing the drop in audio on your iMac.

Thanks MoonJ,

I have tested AirPods Max with my MacBook Pro today. The conference call lasted for more then two hours and AirPods worked flawlessly. So I guess is some problem with connection from my iMac to AirPods Max.

Let me write the details of my MacBook Pro (AirPods Max working fine):

MacBook Pro 15 inch (late 2017)

macOS Big Sur (11.1)

Details of my iMac (AirPods Max working fine for listening music, but dropping audio while using Zoom or Skype [cannot hear the participants and they cannot hear me]; in bluetooth menu they are showing as connected all the time.

iMac Retina 5K, 27 inch, Late 2014
