Messages are currently Disabled REPAIR ACCOUNT- Reset End-to-End Encrypted Data

I had reset my phone a month or two ago. I wanted to restore text message conversations that were accidentally deleted. When I signed into my AppleID, I was then asked if I wanted to restore. I selected Restore. I then got the option of which back up I wanted to restore. I selected the one that I wanted to restore messages. I was then prompted to Enter my iPhone Passcode used to unlock this iPhone. Then I was prompted to Enter Old Passcode. It wouldn't accept my old iPhone Passcode. So, I then tried using the Passcode to my old iPhone which is still singed into my AppleID. I entered the Passcode for that phone and unlocked the phone. I went back to my new iPhone and tried it again. The message says Reset End-to-End Encrypted data!!! Please tell me there is a way to fix this without having to RESET my data. For some reason I am not able to unlock each phone using the other, and I can only reset my AppleID Password, I am not able to reset my Old Passcode.

Hi there _JESSA_2019!

From what it sounds like, Messages is trying to complete the encrypted data approval process for messages. We can definitely understand your confusion and will give you some tips to help guide you to a solution.

To start, we want to be upfront by saying Apple cannot make any exceptions for this security measure as it is in place for the customer’s protection, to secure their most sensitive data.

In order to continue storing your encrypted data in iCloud, you may need to reset the existing data on their account. The requirement to reset the data at this point ensures that it is safely secured against intruders.

Once you get to the Reset portion of this security measure, it will reset all data listed under "End-to-end encrypted data": iCloud security overview

However, if you have iCloud Backup turned on, your backup includes a copy of the key protecting your Messages. This ensures you can recover your Messages if you lose access to iCloud Keychain and your trusted devices.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
