Cloud Music Library > Genius Can't Be Updated

Anyone else getting this error using the Apple Music App on a Mac?

When I go to File > Library > Update Cloud Library OR Update Genius, I get the following error: "Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occurred (-50)"

Yes this is happening to me also, and it is causing considerable grief on my part. I am seething at this point. I've been a loyal Apple user since 1984, but seriously the music App is frustrating enough to make me consider scrapping every piece of Apple hardware in my possession, and trust me I have a considerable stable of Apple gear.

I noticed several months ago that a significant portion of my music library has just "disappeared". I have no clue how it happened, when it happened, or what it happened to. I have a very large library of music, but I have been very busy so mostly listen to one playlist which seems to have most of it's music. A year ago I was diagnosed with cancer, and along with this insane pandemic, I've found myself with much too much free time on my hand, and I decided to freshen up my stale playlist, and this is when I noticed a significant portion of my music library is missing. In most instances, it is just songs, not entire albums, and often one album will have one song left while the very next album by the same artist will be untouched. So I've spent far too much time trying to rebuild my library, and let me tell you the Music App is just plain antagonistic. There seriously needs to be some changes implemented in the way it handles it's internal housekeeping. Most notably it should NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE update the cloud library while the user is active because this causes serious flaws in the library. Let me explain by example. Let's say I import 15 albums. I notice that one of the Albums is not sorted correctly which happens very often. A prime example is one Album split into two because one track the artist collaborated with another artist so Apple Music splits the Album every time a different artist shows up in a track. This is easily fixed, but if you change anything while Apple Music is communication with Apple's server the changes will most likely revert even if they show changed after you have made the change. When you're making thousands of changes, I'm sure you can see this can be highly frustrating. I now keep the activity pane open while I work, but there is no guarantee this pane shows accurate information. There are numerous times when the pane shows "No Activity", but in fact the app is indeed doing something in the background that will screw up the work you are doing. Even simple things like renumbering tracks can be slow when you have many tens of thousands of tracks in your library so even the simplest task is excruciatingly frustrating to have to repeat no matter how careful you are... Have I mentioned I've been working on this for months? Have I mentioned I have cancer? Trust me, there are better things I can be doing with my time than fixing a screw up by the music app.

I apologize for ranting. I now come to your question. Yesterday or the day before I imported about 1,000 tracks into my library. I set the library to sync with the cloud and I come back and I get the message "Genius results can't be updated..." and EVERY single track I imported gets duplicated, but the duplicate is greyed out. So I set about to click on every other track in the list 1,000 times to delete the duplicate and re-update the library only to get this message again. I restart my Mac and repeat. same result. I deauthorize my computer restart my Mac, and repeat. Same result. I log out of my Apple ID restart my computer relog into my ID restart, and repeat. Same result. So now I've clicked every other track in a list of newly added tracks over 1,000 times for about 6 times now with no change. I'm sure you can get "some" idea of the time I've spent on this one single issue. I have no idea how to fix it, or what is causing it, but it's a problem, that I hope someone can address because I can no longer change my library till this is fixed, and I'm maybe two days away from having my Library 100%, and I can put a copy of my >1 terabyte library onto my RAID for safekeeping.
