how to remove adobe flash player to force apple os big sur to instal

my MacBook pro early 2015, is unable to download mac os updates. I get a message saying it timed out. My download speed is more than sufficient. I am also unable to revert to google as the default search engine even though it is chosen in system preferences as the default search engine. Recently, i downloaded, then attempted to remove adobe flash player. I thought this might have been the problem. Can't find flash player anywhere, though i suspect it is at the root of the problem. Current OS is Mojave 10.14.6 I thought if I updated the OS it my solve my problems. Can someone please help me?

Never heard of this as an issue before.

However easy enough to delete the Adobe Flash...

>System Preferences>Flash> click it open here and delete.

I have a guess if your preferred search engine can not be selected/honored you may have downloaded Flash—not from the official Adobe website—this is a often a vector for adware//malware to be installed, and can cause hijacking of your browser /search is one symptom...

please advise if you continue to have an issue.
