bluetooth pairing is a failure

Why can’t you pair a keyboard with several devices at once? Everytime I want to use my APPLE keyboard with another device, I have to go through the irritating and laborious process of discconnecting, no, wait, “forget this device” on the other device to pair it with the one I want to use?

Why are we not allowed to pair one keyboard to two devices at once?

It would seem to be an intelligent and smooth process but no. So much for smart devices.
