update to catalina
my mac is running on macOS El Captain how can i update to Catalina? It does´t show any software update...

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and if your Mac is a 2012 or newer model(2013 for desktop Mac Pros), download Catalina through the link provided. If not, you can't.
