Test messages being sent to landline contacts rather than their mobile phone

How do I stop texts from automatically being routed to contacts' landlines, which of course do not get delivered? I am responding on a thread of messages from contacts, some of which are messages from their mobile phones and some are automatically transcribed voice

messages from their landlines. Do I have to turn off the transcription function to ensure that the thread only contains mobile phone contacts? I'm on an iPhone 12, which amazingly is not available as a "Choose a different device" function on this support site. What the heck is happening at Apple?

Hey Ringaleavio1966,

As we understand it, you're in a text thread with several contacts, and your text messages are being routed to their landline number rather than their mobile number.

There is not an Apple feature that allows for text forwarding to a landline, this is likely due to a setting from their providers. That being said, to better isolate this issue, can you let us know the following?

For affected contacts, is the mobile number listed first for their contact in the Contacts app?
Does this issue persist with solely iMessage threads?
If "Text Message Forwarding" under Settings > Messages is toggled on, take a moment to toggle it off, do you still receive or automatically send to landlines? How to forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your iPad, iPod touch or Mac
