iPhone 12 not visible in iTunes!

Good day,

I received my iPhone 12 today. I want to connect it to my iMac. My iMac is from 2013 and does not have a USB C port. So I use a USB A cable. Once plugged in, my iPhone 12 just wants to charge. It is not visible in iTunes, but it asks for access. Is this because my old iPhone 7+ is still on? What exactly do I have to do so that my iPhone 12 is visible?
