photo file size

Hi there,

I am trying to create a photo book in Shutterfly with photos from a variety of sources. I realize that the photos that I (and my other family members) downloaded from our iphones are very low resolution and I am getting a warning sign from Shutterfly about their size. Are the files themselves in iCloud too small for print? Or only small files downloaded? How do I download the full files?

Also, how can I make sure the best possible quality and size is taken using my iphone to begin with? I am a bit of a phot enthusiast and would be very disappointed if the photos I've taken the past few years (this seems to only be a problem with recent photos) are not good quality.

Thanks!

Tina

The books that were created in iPhoto strived for images that were 300 dpi for the selected layout size. The warning level was around 180 dpi.

The rule of thumb is to use the largest pixel dimension image you've got for any photo.

Many of my earlier books has photos at 500 x 351 for some of the smaller frames in the layouts and were fine in my opinion.

Here's what Shutterfly recommends for various sized prints: PHOTO BOOKS

(It's about 300 dpi also)

You can extrapolate from there for the book and it's various layout sizes.

Hi

I assume you have the photos in the photos app. Your phone will always store full resolution images. So the question is, how are you getting the images out of photos?

If you are dragging to a folder that will likely result in a low resolution image. To get a full resolution image you need to use:

File>export. Select full size and maximum quality.
