iTunes song naming convention

a folder consisting of a record album (mp3's) didn't import well - it ended up in a blob of a million mixed up songs. if i re-name the files, will there be a better chance that iTunes will import it as it's own album with it's own album art? (folder jpg) here's, for example, is how the 8th track of an album by the artist, Marcia Gomes, is currently named:

Overcome Songs of Faith, Love, and Justice - Marcia Gomes - 08 Life's Another Chance

Windows, Windows 10

Hi,

iTunes reads metadata from tags, and doesn't attempt to parse any information from the file path if the tag is incomplete or missing. There are two options under Edit > Preferences > Advanced that affect what happens to music added to the library. Hopefully you were working with copies of the files, or your settings are such that the original files have not been renamed. I have a script called TagFromFilename that in its current form is designed to update the tags of files that are in the form <Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<Ext>. Your example looks to be in the pattern <Album> - <Artist> - ## <Name>.<Ext>. I could potentially tweak the script to take account of your alternative layout. Alternatively you could try using MediaMonkey which has a similar function for updating tags, then import the tagged files into iTunes where it should make more sense of them.
