Dell SE2719HR monitor

I have a brand new iMac (27-inch, 2020) and have connected a new Dell SE2719HR monitor to it. Every single time I start the iMac I have to run the SMC test because the Dell monitor cannot find the HDMI connection. Once I run the SMC test the system works flawlessly. (I use the second monitor primarily for my virtual PC.) I can let the system fall asleep and when I wake it up the Dell monitor is working fine. Every time I start the iMac from OFF though I run into the problem with the Dell monitor not finding the HDMI connection. I also notice that when the Dell monitor is not working my mouse becomes jerky as well. May be unrelated but normally the mouse works fine. I'm running Big Sur 11.1.
