Google Maps disappeared?

I updated the latest version of Big Sur 11.1; and got 2 question marks (?) in the dock where Google maps and Xcode were. clicked on the Xcode and it opened. (replaced the question mark with the app icon).

But there is no trace of google maps? Did a search and it is like it never existed? Any ideas?

Mac mini, macOS 11.1

Thank you for the update.

With some research, I have determined that right now, there is not an official from Google download of Google Maps for Mac. The only official download from Google is Google Earth for Mac. It is possible you downloaded malware the first time, and during the update process, your Mac removed the malware using Apple's MRT. - Just a possibly.

There is Apple Maps built into your Mac though, if you want a downloaded maps app.

Anyway, I hope this solves your issue.

Cheers,

Jack

If there are question marks in the dock after an update or upgrade, it means that the app is no longer compatible. Could be that it was 32 bit? So, you can download the latest version again if it is not in your Applications folder (or if it is there, but shows a slash through it). I don't do anything Google, but if you have an account, it may be that they offer an app to their members.

I did a search for it in the Mac App store - couldn't find it.

To get rid of the ?, click on it and slowly move it to the middle of the screen - it should turn to "remove" and go "poof".

Jack,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question. You are appreciated.

Last October my friend was on a treasure hunt. (Johnnys treasure Quest, really cool, check it out @facebook); And I took up the role of man in the chair. Anyway shifting back and forth from Maps, to Chrome to Google Earth I was brought to a page to download the app. I opened the .dmg and copied the file to Applications/Google folder [Chrome, Maps, Formerly earth, Backup and Sync and Docs Shortcut widget] . Ran it many times and kept the icon in the dock.

Upon update of 11.1 gone.

Nothing in finder, nothing in trash, nothing in spotlight, nothing in widgets just gone.

Can't even find on internet where I got it from. A mystery. Wish I kept the .dmg but BigSur 11 slowed me down so much I cleaned up a lot of things a couple of months ago including some files from my PowerMac 8500. (i know) But it is a mystery.

(same thing happened to me with an app called Thin Wallet that was on my iPhone {that I had since the 3gs} no history of it existing anywhere after installing 14.1)

Was hoping it happened to someone else. Mind Blown.

I am running:

Mac Mini (late 14)

2.6ghz i5

8g 1600Mhz

Iris 1536
