viewing email. in a larger font

I have been trying to view the text of an email in a large font but nothing changes once I go to Mail preferences and select the changes. What am I missing? I managed to change the column that shows what email I have but cant view the body of the email any larger.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.1

You can zoom the email by pressing "Command +"
