In the above article, specifically sections 4 "Check the fit" and 5 "Get the most accurate heart rate measurement" will apply.

Once reviewed, test the issue by disabling Wrist Detection:

-Open the Apple Watch app on the iPhone.

-Tap My Watch > Passcode.

-Turn off Wrist Detection.
