Missing MacBook

I bought a MacBook a few years ago for my gf that was allegedly stolen from her job. Can I recover it with the serial number? I never signed into it to activate "find my device"....and neither did she even though I kept telling her to

You can check with the local police to see if they recovered a computer with that serial number.
