I have not updated the itunes software on my PC for several years because was concerned about losing or corrupting the hundreds of albums I had uploaded from my CD collection. I have heard from friends that this has happened. Now I have an iphone 7 and would like to upload all of my music from the PC onto it. Is it possible to do this safely and how do I do it?
In which case you can download a new copy of iTunes from iTunes - Apple or get it from the Microsoft Store. I asked because Windows 7/8 isn't supported for the most recent release and I would have found you another link in that case.

What version of Windows are you running? It is generally safe to update iTunes when a new version comes out. It is also a good idea to keep a backup of your library just in case. Yes, if you've not updated iTunes for several years, but your iPhone has been updated, then you will need a new version to connect to the device.

Ok I will do a backup and then update the PC before connecting my phone. Hopefully there will be prompts to let me know what to do once the phone is connected?
