How to turn off activation lock after phone was already erased and you are trying to restore phone

Quick background, I have an 11pro that the screen got messed up on so I’m having it replaced and need a phone to use while that one is gone so I pull out my old 7+ to use it in the mean time. I pop in my SIM card into the 7+ and begin to restore it from a backup, or so I thought. I was stopped by a screen that said it couldn’t be desired because it needed an update. I’ll skip a lot of the tail chasing I did to figure out that when I erased my 7+ i never turned off find my iPhone from it and the reason I can’t activate it is because it has activation lock on since I never turned find my iPhone off before erasing it. So my question is or questions are 1) is there a way to maybe do something like sign into find my on a different device and erase that phone off of there or somehow turn activation lock off? Or 2) can someone that is smarter than me in this area of expertise share their knowledge and tell me what I need to do so I can get this phone set up and usable. Thank you, I appreciate any help I get with this
