The power went out and I need to reboot my mac mini. I have tried many combinations to try and restart it. Trying to remember the exact format of my name and password. Any other way or finding out the right spellings etc.?

Changed passwords so many times. Can't remember the right combination of Name and password in order to reboot. Any way of finding out what they are another way ? Online ? Sincerely, Victor

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Can you boot into the recovery partition ?

If so, you can reset the admin password using Terminal:

  1. Restart your Mac. ...
  2. While it is restarting, press and hold the Command + R keys until you see the Apple logo. ...
  3. Go to the Apple Menu at the top and click Utilities. ...
  4. Then click Terminal.
  5. Type “resetpassword” in the terminal window. ...
  6. Then hit Enter. ...
  7. Type your password and a hint.
