What power adapter is best for older IPads
iPad Air 2, iPadOS 14
A standard Apple Power Adapter, rated at 12W, is ideal for older models of iPad. Other good quality “standard USB” (5V) third-party Power Adapters rated at 12W are equally suitable.
Lower wattage 5W Power Adapters are generally inadequate for iPad; 10W should be considered the sensible minimum.
A 12W Power Adapter will allow the majority of iPad older iPad models to charge at their maximum supported charging rate - 2.4A @5V.
You should actively avoid “Fast Chargers”, in particular “QC” (Quick Charge) Power Adapters - as these are not compatible with Apple devices. Newer models of iPad and iPad Pro support the USB-PD (Power Delivery) Fast Charging standard - but these will offer no benefit to older iPad models.
