Cannot airdrop from Macbook Pro 2017 running Big Sur to MAC mini x1 running Big Sur

The Mac Mini sees the Macbook, but the Macbook does not see the MAC Mini. Both on same Wifi and both have Bluetooth enabled. I have both setup to be discovered by everyone.

Any suggestions or hints?

Mac mini, macOS 11.1

Hi Jabuffum,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Sounds like you are able to AirDrop from your Mac mini to your MacBook but not from your MacBook to your Mac mini, is that right? You mentioned that they were both running macOS Big Sur, are both running the latest version of it which is macOS 11.1? On your Mac mini If you go to the Apple Menu > System Preference > Security & Privacy, click the Firewall tab, do you have "Block all incoming connections" selected?

Use AirDrop on your Mac

Hope that helps!

Jabuffum,

Thank you for checking those settings. There is another software update available for Big Sur. The latest is macOS Big Sur 11.2. You'll want to update to see if that resolves this issue. Also, if you haven't already, restart both computers and attempt to AirDrop again.

You can also create a test user to confirm that this issue is system wide and not an issue with-in your specific user.

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Log out, sleep, wake, restart or shut down your Mac

How to update the software on your Mac

If you are still unable to detect your Mac mini after following those steps, you may be able to reach out to Apple Support for further assistance here: Get Support.
