How to Increase the DPI of a TIFF file to 300 DPI from its default 72 DPI?

Using a Canon digital EOS 1100d I took a RAW file then converted on my MacBookPro to a Tiff file by opening it in Preview then exporting it as a Tiff. When I looked at the inspector I see that the image DPI is 72 but for my purposes I need this to be 300. How can I do this on this Mac please?

Thanks TP

DPI is meaningless until you pick a print size. Please read The Myth of DPI.

The reason you're seeing 72 dpi is because when importing into Photos the apparent DPI is changed to 72 as that's the default screen resolution.

If you want it to reflect 300 dpi you'll have to open it in an image editor and change the resolution to 300 dpi which will change the print size but not the pixel dimensions.

However, if you import it back into Photos it probably will be converted back to 72.

Thank you for this Old Toad and I will read The Myth of DPI above before I come back with questions, yet at the moment I am still in doubt about the following:

1) What app is this screenshot from? I am assuming it is not from an app native to the MacBook pro, correct?

2) in your screenshot I am confused by what the left side and right side represent as they are the same. Is it a (Left) From and (Right) To environment, for instance as part of a conversion process?

Thanks again for the prompt reply - I will be back after I read the documentation you recommend.
