Getting rid of the red squiggly lines (spelling)

Hi.

I am desperately trying to get rid of the red squiggly lines that suggest I can't spell. Everywhere!

I have, of course, Googled time and time again.

  • I have unchecked everything in System Preferences > Keyboard > Text
  • In the "Spelling" dropdown I have chosen "Set Up.." and only chosen an asian language I don't use
  • I have unchecked everything under Edit > Spelling and Grammar, in every single app

Nevertheless those [insert comicbook swearing] squiggly lines pop up in various apps, including Safari and iMessage.

I don't mind diving into the depths of the registry, just free me from those infernal squigglies once and for all. 😖

Alright, it turns out my issue in Safari was due to Google search having it's own (annyoing) spell check. In Messages I turned "Check Spelling While Typing" on and off again, and then restarted the app. I will try the same approach if any other apps start acting up. :)

Thanks

I am not. I only use Docker for building webapps with Linux base images and I rarely run them locally. Good thinking, though!

It makes me wonder (just because the icon is next to Docker's) if Parallels Desktop might have something to do with it 🤔. It tends to be a little more invasive than I would like. It might try to share settings in some unforseeable way.
