Pages only prints blank page

Since upgrading to Big Sur, Pages only prints a blank page.

  • The printer used is a Canon MF5900 using the Canon drivers (10.8.0).
  • The Mac is a MacBook Air 2020, 1.2 GHz i7 with 16GB RAM, running MacOS 11.1.
  • I reset the Printing-System already and freshly added the printer again. Had no effect.

My current workaround ist to export a PDF, open it on the iPhone and print from there via Airprint (Printopia). How crazy is that.

I must say, i have not seen a MacOS Update so buggy before, and i am using Macs since 1988.

When I enter MF59 in a Canon site search facility, it only shows two ImageCLASS devices: MF5950dw and an MF5960dn as supported on macOS Big Sur. Both have driver updates dated Jan 22, 2021 at v10.11.6.

If your "MF5900" is really shorthand for one of these two Big Sur supported ImageCLASS devices, I suggest you update your printer software accordingly.

Thanks a lot for the Tip. I just installed "MF Printer Driver & Utilities for Macintosh V10.11.6 [Mac OS : 10.10.5 - 11.1]" from https://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/laser/laserbase_mf_series/i-sensys_mf5980dw.html?type=drivers&language=de&os=macos%2011.0%20(big%20sur) and this solved my Problem.

I can now print again. Wonderful.

I don't know why, but i was under the assumption, that since quite a while, MacOS takes care of Printer-Drivers and updating them… Obviously not the case.
