You have perhaps managed to enable a Slide Over or Split view - this being a major multitasking feature of iPadOS, fully detailed in the iPad User Guide for iPadOS.
Whilst you can completely disable multi-tasking, in so doing you’ll be neutering your iPad - and will lose access to many of the advanced features of iPadOS. If you prefer the simpler environment of a few years ago, then disabling multitasking might be an appropriate choice, otherwise understanding and using the feature is likely to improve enjoyment of your iPad.
Here is the easy way to change the Slide Over view, to full screen...
Identify the small grey drag-bar at top-centre of the Slide Over window. Touch-and-drag the drag-bar to the top-centre of the screen - and lift your finger; the Slide Over window will transform into a full screen view.
Split view works in a similar way. You’ll find a drag-bar on the central divider - drag to left or right to resize the split, or to the edge of the screen to go full screen.

My iPad is using a split screen whenever I go into apps such as google etc. How can I get rid of the split screen .
