time machine - No Backup in XX Days reminder

I'm using MacOS mojave (10.14.6).  I recall that there is a reminder that I haven't backed up in X days. Unfortunately, I don't get that reminder.

What do I have to do to get that to start working again?

thanks

Hi SU,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We see you have a question about those Time Machine notifications from a few macOS versions ago, and we'd like to help.

Time Machine no longer provides those notices because backing up your Mac is now automatic.

Back up your Mac with Time Machine

If your Time Machine backup disk is not available, then Time Machine makes local snapshots to keep your data safe. Check it out in this article: About Time Machine local snapshots

You will still see notifications if Time Machine is having any issues with backups or local snapshots. This page in the macOS User Guide (for macOS Mojave) has some troubleshooting steps if you should happen to need assistance: Time Machine troubleshooting on Mac

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

I get those reminders on my Macs that are running High Sierra, Mojave, and Catalina, if one of the backup drives has not been backed up to in the last 10 days. The latest one, for my work machine, mentions no backups on X drive for 320 days as my Time Machine X drive is still in my office where it was left on March 16, 2020! However I have been doing backups with two other Time Machine external drives that I have here in my remote office at home.

I believe that notification starts after 10 days have passed without a backup to one of your Time Machine backup drives.

Open Time Machine System Preferences and see if your Time Machine drive is listed there and look to see when it was last backed up to. If it has been more than 10 days, you should be getting those reminders about no backups to X drive in the past Y days. When Y increments by ten more days, another reminder pops up.

There are special commands using Terminal that can change the frequency of Time Machine backups and possibly stop this notification.
