iPad stuck in attempting data recovery

Have an iPad of a friend who unfortunately just passed away. It had issues before she passed and she didn’t get it fixed. It was stuck with Apple logo. I got it to connect to my computer by holding the power button and home button together. My computer recognized it and attempted a repair. The iPad then went to “attempting data recovery” and that’s where I’ve been stuck. My computer doesn’t recognize it anymore and it keeps saying data recovery failed. There’s no other option other than to try data recovery again. At this point I don’t care if I can get any of her things off the iPad. I just need it to work. Any ideas?

Hi Say9072,

We see you're having issues getting an iPad to work. We can certainly understand the need to do so, and we'd be happy to help out.

First, we offer our condolences on the passing of your friend. We know that's always a very challenging time. With the iPad in the current state it's in, you may need to try these steps: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

Also note that the bottom of the page has links that will help if you run into any error codes, in the 'Get more help' section.

Choosing the 'Restore' option does erase the device in the process. If your friend had Find My enabled on the device, it will display the Activation Lock after it's up and running again.

For guidance on that, you can reach out to Apple Support directly, who can explore the next steps on that for you: Get Support

Take care!
