I am using a standard Swiss German layout when working on my computer. However, when connecting a keyboard to my iPhone, I can’t seem to get the proper layout that works with my keyboard, even though I’m selecting the layout I normally use (Swiss German). The Shift or Alt
Gr combinations don’t output the same characters for instance. Is there a way to get the proper Swiss German layout?
iPhone XR, iOS 14
Go to settings > general > keyboard > hardware keyboard and tap over at the right edge. Make sure you have Swiss German checked and NOT "automatic" or "German" or something else.

Could you give some specific examples?
When your keyboard is set to German, and with the Hardware Keyboard for German (tapping over at the right edge) is checked for Swiss German, your hardware keyboard should behave like the picture below of the Apple Swiss keyboard (with umlauts on those keys at the right edge).

Yes, that's unfortunate. On a Mac it's easy to make a custom "Swiss German PC" layout to deal with such problems, but not on an iPhone/iPad yet. To ask Apple to remedy this, you can use
Like it shows on graphic I posted, Swiss German has @ on Alt G. Does that work for you? Shift 2 is on a US mapping.
I guess a Windows Swiss German layout may put @ at Alt 2, but Apple doesn't have an input source that matches that.
Yeah alright. I'm not interested onto learning a new layout at all. Sucks that there are no Windows keyboard layout options.
I’ve done that already. The layout looks fine except that most of the characters combinations you would find on a regular layout aren’t the same at all.
Well, for instance, writing a @ on a regular keyboard would be AltGr+2. I still haven't figured out where it was on the iPhone hardware keyboard.
PS I am posting a picture of the Alt level of the Apple Swiss German mapping, in case this is helpful in finding other characters you need.
