fingerprint not working

my fingerprint ID isn't working and "add a fingerprint" doesn't respond

Thanks for the suggestion. I followed the link and found not only instructions for resetting the SMC but instructions for an easier fix, to try first. It was to shut down the computer, hold the power button for 10 seconds, then release the button and press it to boot the computer. Problem solved! Thanks again.
