HELP - Trouble trying to use old iMac(21.5" Late 2012) as second monitor with new 27" 2020 iMac

Hi all,

I have been trying to use my old iMac (21.5 inch Late 2012 - ElCapitan 10.11.6) as a second monitor for my new iMac (Retina 5k, 27", 2020 - Catalina 10.15.7). I purchased USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 Converter and have the 2 monitors joined with adapter and thunderbolt cable. Instructions I read call for me to hit, Command F2 to create link. When I hit Command F@ nothing happens? I have spent hours trying to find way but have been unsuccessful. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

Hi bjolson724,

Your setup will not work. The target Mac must be running macOS High Sierra or earlier. The output Mac must be running macOS Mojave or earlier. You cannot downgrade the Mac to Mojave.

Cheers,

Jack
