I forgot my password for the mac I am using now, pleae help. How do I access my ID to change my password

I have forgotten my password on my new mac pro

On much older version of MacOS, you could keep entering it wrong and eventually it would suggest you could use your Apple-ID.


This works provided you have a simple, trouble-free Internet connection immediately available, not bollixed up with added complexity like certificates, VPNs, and junk.


The procedure has been changed somewhat, and varies slightly with version of MacOS -- select the correct version in this article for most accurate information:
