How can I purchase music like I used to from the iTunes Store? All I see is the Apple Music subscription. I want to purchase songs and albums. Even when I enable iTunes store in Preferences it still doesn't appear on my desktop. I can search for albums, but see nowhere to purchase.

Thanks, but I've been right through the procedure and I don't get an iTunes icon as shown. I get "Apple Music" & "Your Library" but that's all. I have enabled iTunes Store in Music Preferences, as I'm supposed to do in Catalina OS. I check the box but that only allows the "iTunes Store" button in the left hand search bar to appear.
All I see is the Apple Music subscription.

That sorted it out. I disabled Apple Music in "Restrictions" like you said and now I have an iTunes button rather than an Apple Music button. I appreciate your help.

Once more thing to check: go to Preferences > Restrictions, and make sure the "iTunes Store" is not disabled. (See below.)
While you are there, you may also want to disable "Apple Music."
