iPad Air 2 with Cellular - wont turn on, Tried Hard Reset, entering DFU, nothing works - just black screen

Hello all,

My iPad Air 2 with Cellular was working just fine, no issues, no screen changes etc.

I left it on the desk (was working fine at the time). I picked it up couple of days later, and I noticed the screen is black. Usually pressing the Power button on top would show the Battery with Red line. But I do not see that, just shows black screen.

I plugged it in the charger, overnight, and next day, same thing... wont turn on or show the battery with red line.

I tried Hard reset - Press and Hold Home + Power button for 30 seconds, 3 seconds, 10 seconds, over a minute,

Seeing some posts, I press both home + Power then release power after 3 seconds but keep holding home button... Nothing

Next tried to enter DFU mode --- connected USB to computer, Press Home button for few seconds and then plug the cable into iPad, nothing...

Tried Pressing Home + Power and connect to computer,,, nothing

Tried Home + Power, release power after 3 seconds, keep holding home button, and connect the cable, nothing...

What else can I try? Its out of warranty so makes no sense to pay apple $300 to fix it - I can buy a used one on ebay for cheaper.

I also tried charger from my other iPad (new one with USB-C to lightning) and that did not charge it either.. Also tried 2 other cables, same thing... just black screen

Any suggestions? There has been no water damage, drop, or anything... It just died...

Hello Ckat11,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. We understand you're unable to power on your iPad, as it only displays a black screen. We'll be happy to help.

Excellent job with the troubleshooting steps that were performed. From the description you provided, it sounds like you attempted to restore your iPad by using a computer. Just to be sure, let's follow the section in this article that says, "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up": If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen In step 3, please be to press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen appear on your computer. This is an important step to ensure you can place your device in the recovery mode screen. If that help, please follow the remaining steps within that section to reinstall the iOS software.

Please keep us posted with the results.

Kind regards.
