I only want a certain color to go directly to voicemail. The reason I do not want to block them as I still want the opportunity to receive text messages from them. AT&T does not have an option to silence the call

You can do this by going to settings> do not disturb > allow calls from favorites
and then go to the phone app and add everyone as your favorite except for the one you don’t want to receive calls, they will go straight to voicemail
You can assign a silent ringtone for them. It doesn’t send them straight to voicemail but you won’t “hear” an alert for them when they call.
