Apple News Repeatedly Crashes on IPad

Apple News repeatedly crashes on my iPad (6th gen) when I try to read articles. Sometimes it’s fine, and other times it’s like the software gets stuck in ‘crash mode’ and no article stays open. Rebooting my iPad only helps sometimes or for a short while. I’m running iOS 14.4, but this has been an ongoing problem since iOS 13. Any suggestions?

Yes, this stupid crashing is becoming more frequent. It used to be after a good half hour of reading...now, it’s one or two articles in. And then I can’t find the story I was reading! Guess I can cancel subscription and go back to WAPO or NYT

I’ve tried all these steps and am really looking for a solution from Apple that seems to be impacting a lot of users.

Really fed up of these patronising just keep trying the same basic steps responses from Apple. Most of us go on forums once we have exhausted relaunch, reboot, update and reload options.

Have contacted Apple support loads of times and get the above response again.

there is clearly a stability problem in the news app that remains unresolved for nearly two years now yet you want your customers to pay monthly subscriptions for this unstable and frustrating app!

Hi Cupcake001,

We understand you're having problems with the News application. We're happy to help.

If the News app won't open and continues to close back to the home screen, you'll want to try these basic steps: If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open

If you've exhausted those steps and the application still won't work properly, you'll want to contact Apple Support directly for assistance: Get Support

We hope this helps. Take care!

hitek45, you forgot the suggestion to provide feedback and the admonition that Apple doesn’t read the community forums. Despite what they say, feedback seems to be a complete waste of time, and shame on Apple if they can’t find money to pay a few people to monitor the community for recurring issues. I am continually frustrated with the lack of stability and basic features present even in Safari. It’s an objectively bad user experience that would be worlds better as a web app. I like the content, at least when it’s not mixing in days old articles, but ironically it’s the software and user experience that’s the letdown.

Same problem. Tried the basics, removed app from my cloud backups, and deleted app. Very frustrating and disappointing.

About ten years ago I was having a different problem, which I posted to the forum. Someone from Apple actually contacted me for more details.

Keep praying into the forum. Jobs and Wozniak may respond some day.
