How to put photos from desktop to iPhone?

I have uploaded/scanned some family photos and want to put a few on my iPhone. I've tried to drag and drop or import and nothing works. Clearly I'm doing something wrong. Open to help.

It is called “syncing”

You choose a folder(s) to sync to the phone.
