The app icons got outlined for a second or two and then went all normal. An **** before that I have received text and calls with my Apple ID verification code - I have not request anything like that. I have changed my password right away, but the glitch with icons looks very suspicious to me especially after text and calls I got.
What was that? Do I need to change my password again and strengthen my security on the phone?

The security does not need strengthening (if you were considering security apps which are a liability)
Getting verification codes means someone (could even be you) has logged into your account using the correct password. So do you have a family member using the same Apple ID on their phone?
If this is unexpected Make sure you have another method of receiving auth codes like another mobile, your partner’s or a trusted friend.

you need to log into icloud.com and make sure any other devices than yours are removed from your account.
