Why can’t I use same email as Apple ID and notifications? I only have one email address. My current ID is no longer a working email address

My current Apple ID email is not valid. When I try and update it it says” can’t use same email for notifications “. I only have one email acct. Stumped on how to fix it. Thanks

You need another email account. You can get one for free from somewhere like Yahoo or AOL.


Apple hasn’t published any guidance for using an address again. Normally, if your e-mail address was associated with an ID in any way, for example as a Notification email address or a Rescue e-mail address, then it can't be reused with another Apple ID for approximately one year. I have also seen posts that stated Apple told them there was a 30 day waiting period before the address could be used again.  You will need to get another e-mail address to use as your Apple ID or you can try waiting 30 days to see if that works.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.


If you want to, you can send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner. Pick the closest topic you can find.
