itunes gift card balance

I have a redeemed gift card balance showing on the itunes store page. Why when buying music does it ask for a credit card? I specifically chose not to have a credit card on file. It will not deduct purchases from the remaining shown balance. I am forced to use paypal since I have no credit card on file.

Gift card use BEFORE Credit card or Apple Pay How do I prompt my iTunes account to charge my Gift card balance BEFORE charging my credit card or Apple Pay? There doesn't seem to be a way for me to ADD the Gift card balance as a pay option. When I tried deleting the credit card and the Apple Pay I was told that I must have at least one PAY option. I want the pay option to be the gift card whenever I am purchasing music. Please assist. Thank you
