A G4 is too old to use any of Apple Internet boot or Recovery partition features. You really should be using the original optical discs or upgrade discs for that computer. Failing that you would need a Firewire hard drive and a cloning tool to clone the internal drive to an external drive. You could then boot from the external drive and use that to wipe the internal drive. Of course if you then want to reinstall the system you'll need installer discs...

You may be able to find used installer discs but they have to be the right kind. It is hard to advise you on what to look for without knowing more about what model computer you have. We can provide more specific advice if we know more about your computer model, year, and specifications. To get more information about your computer choose Apple menu  > 'About This Mac' in the upper left corner of any window, then "More Info..." or "System Report". Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and UUIDs (if present). More about this in "About System Information [Profiler] on your Mac" - https://support.apple.com/HT203001
