This is killing me...

2700 + images from an Indian wedding and A3 decides it needs to act up... All of the images are in the verticle orientation and pixelated. They weren't a week ago. At 7-10 seconds an image, I will be here for days. Any suggestions? I took a screen shot, but don't know how to post it. Rebuilt previews and that didn't change anything.

Are the images messed up or just the Thumbnails?

When I had a similar problem in Aperture 3:
1) quit Aperture,
2) using the Finder, locate your Aperture Library,
3) Control-click on the Aperture Library to “Show package contents” and then
4) move the entire Thumbnail folder to the Trash,
5) restart Aperture.

When you restart Aperture, it then rebuilds all your thumbnails correctly using the minimum amount of disk space too.

I'll toss the previews.

Watch your language! 8^)

I was referring to Thumbnails, not Previews. The thumbnails are the small images that appear in the Browser view. The previews are the larger images that appear in the Viewer (i.e. the view of the thumbnail(s) you selected. Previews and thumbnails can both be regenerated within Aperture if a problem, but it seems it’s usually the thumbnails that benefit from moving the entire folder to the Finder’s Trash. I suppose you could also use Finder to Trash the Previews folder, but I don’t know anyone who had to do that so be sure and save what you Trash in case you need it.

Well... I thought I had put this behind me. But I opened another folder today and found the same problem with a few of the images. Then I went to the folder I had just finished working and found more thumbnails acing up. What is happening is that any portrait image is compressed sideways into the portrait space. Take a verticle image, turn the image on it's side and squish it back into the same shaped space. The thumbnail is still verticle, but the image inside is squished sideways. When I go to view the preview, the spinning beach ball of death appears for about 20 seconds and the the image opens and looks fine.

I deleted the thumbnails from the library, but it rebuilt them the same as before.

Any ideas what's going on?

Hi Tony. The link you provided for my question regarding the vaults took care of it. I wasn't aware of teh Aperture trouble shooting. I repaired the permissions and it opened correctly and fast. Thanks very much, that was huge help.

FWIW, i use a Nikon D3 in auto rotate and I think it was the permissions. Thanks again

Cheers,
kevin

Kevin, two birds with one stone, awesome, glad it helped.
Interesting that something like that can manifest itself in a number of ways.
