5120x1440 not supported with Radeon Pro Vega II type-c to DP 1.4

Mac Pro (2019) Big Sur 11.2

3.2 GHz 16-Core Intel Xeon W

128 GB 2933 MHz DDR4

AMD Radeon Pro Vega II 32 GB

VIOTEK SUW49DA (supports 5120x1440 120hz)

Viotek monitor supports both 5120x1440@120hz or two 3840x2160@60hz displays using two DP cables.

I have to use picture-by-picture mode @ 2560x1440@120hz. Essentially two QHD monitors side-by-side not the native 5120x1440. The cables used are all 8k.

  • Apple docs state Radeon Pro Vega II MPX supports three 5K displays with resolutions of 5120 x 2880 at 60Hz connected to Bus 0, Bus 1, and either the top* or rear Thunderbolt 3 ports on your Mac Pro.

This is not in fact true. A $14k computer that does not allow us to work with our monitor's native resolution. AMD does not provide drivers for OSX so we need Apple to resolve this issue. Windows supports this monitor without issue at 5120x1440@120hz as a single panel, not as two separate monitors. I was patient and waited for a BigSur update to 11.2 hoping this would fix the issue but it does not. Also, OSX keeps switching the order of the displays whenever I put the mac to sleep. I then have to change the arrangement.

Very disappointed.

Correction, the issue is not OSX related but instead a limitation of the VIOTEK SUW49DA monitor. 5120x1440 is only achieved in dual QHD mode or picture-by-picture in either 3840x2160@60hz or 2560x1440@120hz. My bad.
