Variable portions of text from cell

Hi everyone.

I have document composed by 20 pages.

on the 21th page I have few cells with the main datas of the document itself (like "client name", "client age", "client address")

Is there any way to automatically change selected portions of text in the middle of the document (as "client name", "client age", "client address") with the new one specified in my page 21?

if it was Numbers or if I was dealing within cells this would have been easy, but from cell to text is harder..

thanks a lot for your precious support

Hi Al,

This would fall under "mail merge" capabilities, which are not supported in Pages.

Feature enhancement requests may be made via the product feedback channel. The Pages portal is the Provide Pages Feedback menu item in the Pages menu.

In the meantime, you may be able to get close by using a single cell table set "inline with text" in the spot where you want each piece of the client data, and with a sell reference to the cell containing that information on a table elsewhere in the Pages document.

Or, it could possibly be done using an appleScript that collects a keyword and the piece of client data associated with that keyword from a table in Numbers or Pages then searches through the document for that keyword, and replaces each occurrence with the client data associated with that keyword, then repeats the process with the next pair.

Beyond my skill set, but there are others here with a much better understanding if AppleScript and related systems whi might be able to provide such a script.

Barry

Hi Al,

I had another thought on this—wondering if LibreOffice supported mail merge / form letters, and found this in the documentation: LibreOffice - Form letter

There will probably be a learning curve to contend with, as I suspect the data transfer will involve Libreoffice Base — a database 'front end'— and a data table in LibreOffice Calc, the spreadsheet module of the application.

Barry
