no startup sound in Big Sur 11.2
Just updated to Big Sur 11.2 and the startup sound is gone even though it is checked in system preferences under sound. It was fine in 11.1. Any ideas how to get it back?

apple removed it in catalina, but re-introduced it in big sur. it's working fine on my iMac on big sur 11.2. but you could still enable it in catalina (which i did) using a terminal command. if you're OK with doing that, open terminal and type in:
sudo nvram StartupMute=%00
enter your administrator password when prompted. before trying it, it would be easy to first check and see if you're not hearing the chime because your volume is just set too low to hear it before you restart.
i'm sorry for suggesting to check your volume. i'm used to answering questions for people that don't seem to know which way is up. i just now noticed you are at level 5. so i needn't have told you to do that. my bad.
After trying the easy stuff I decided to use my backup and reinstalled the data volume and now all is fine.
Tried that and no impact. I also did the usual NVRM reset, safe boot and SMC and no impact.
