I no longer have the email address

A long while ago I was getting abuse by email I kept blocking but they kept coming. Unfortunately I was using the email for Apple ID on my iPad. My iPad has now gone into activation lock. How do I get my iPad back?

iPad mini, iOS 9

Thank you. I solved the problem using this but I had to remember a 5 year old password to an email that no longer exists to do it
