How can I get a startup disk on my macbook

I was given an macbook and it won't reinstall MacOS and doesn't have a startup disk. what can I do?

Accidently deleted Macintosh HD on Disk Utility - now my mac won't start up Earlier today I was trying to reset my Macbook Pro (2016 model on MacOS Big Sur) to sell and I deleted Macintosh HD from the Disk Utility software thinking that it would reset my mac to factory settings. Now my Mac can't start up and shows a folder with a question mark in it. First Aid does not work for any of the internal options. "Preboot", "Recovery" and "VM" are unmounted every time I go back in to Disk Utility. First Aid for Internal > AppleAPFSMedia does not work and says I need to repair the startup volume by running First Aid from Recovery? Isn't that what I'm doing? When I try re-install MacOS it only shows "Macintosh HD - Data" & "Update" and the installation always fails when reaching the end on either option. Attached is a photo of my Internal disks on Disk Utility. I would appreciate any help, thank you in advance!

Using an external SSD as my startup disk with my Mac mini I followed the instructions on "Use an external SSD as your startup disk with your iMac or Mac mini" - Quoting from the instructions: "After Migration, change your startup disk to set the external SSD as the default startup Disk. Open System Preferences, then choose Startup Disk. Select the external SSD, and click Restart." Well, after over 14 hours of trying everything together with my Apple tech, the external SSD never shows up in the Startup Disk panel. Only my internal HD. Any solutions and further instructions would be very welcome! Many thanks in advance (somewhere along the way, it says S.M.A.R.T. not supported)... Help! Clean Install macOS Ventura I have a little OCD, so on previous Macs, would format the SSD before reinstalling the latest version of macOS. I’ve just purchased a 16 inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro. It was pre-installed with macOS Monterey. I upgraded to Ventura then formatted the SSD, but when choosing to reinstall macOS, it reverts to downloading Monterey. Is there any way to clean install macOS and retain Ventura? Thanks in advance.

What do you mean when you say that your Mac doesn't have a startup disk? What is the exact message you're getting when you turn on your Mac normally?

If you see a folder with a flashing question mark means that your startup disk is no longer available. Here's what to do:
