Mail app removed from home screen can't reinstate

I removed my mail app from my home screen. The apple instructions talk about deleting the app, but it isn't working if the app has just been "removed from home screen."

When I pull up the mail app in the app store it only offers for me to "open." I can't reinstall or get it to show back up on my home screen. How can I do this?

Thanks

Open the App Library (last screen on it) and drag the Mail app back where you want it.
