HDMI to lightning adapter won’t play downloaded content

Okay, so I bought the official apple adapter after trying the cheaper nock offs and running into what I understand to be licensing issues and it does work but it still either shows and error or simple won’t load my downloaded content. What gives? I just spent 70$ on this thing and if it won’t do what I bought it to do then it will be going back the same as the nock off’s. My phone’s software is up to date- is there something else I am missing??

No, you don’t understand. The adapter works fine and will work when streaming content on netflix, Disney or prime however, when I try and watch episodes that are downloaded to my device on those same platforms, it gets stuck on a loading screen and doesn’t play. Prime sends a error measage saying to contact amazon support but the problem is persistent across multiple platforms so it’s clearly an issue with the adapter.
