What is your model Mac? What is its version macOS?

Unless your Mac is very old, it will have QuickTime Player installed. It is not a separate download, but bundled with macOS.

Macintosh HD/Applications/QuickTime Player.app

If you click the QuickTime icon in the Dock, then QuickTime Player may launch with an Open… dialog window. Ready to open any of your existing documents. An empty window may indicate no compatible files in that folder.

The shortcut in the sidebar, QuickTime Player in iCloud, is a folder in iCloud, not an application.

Other shortcuts in the sidebar may point to folders on your Mac.

QuickTime Player will remember where you last opened a document, even after a restart, for use for the default Open/Save location.

If you do not wish to open a QuickTime-compatible document, press Cancel (or Done). Then only the QuickTime menu bar remains, where you may select other actions.
