How can I get my messages on my iMac to show in chronological order
Your macOS is out of date, and might be the cause of the issue. Go to the Mac App Store, search for "Big Sur", or use this link, https://apps.apple.com/us/app/macos-big-sur/id1526878132?mt=12, download the update, and install the update. See if this resolves the issue.
Backup first before updating!
Sorry I did not ask earlier, but what model and year is your iMac? (Apple Menu (top left) > About this Mac.)
What version of macOS are you running? You can find out if you go to the Apple Menu (top left) > About this Mac.

On my iMac the icon is a blue app (like a word cloud) that says messages. It is there that I receive text messages but they are not in chronological order and when I receive a message i have to search for it.
