What to Try:
Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for video) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. It might take up to three tries to reset both successfully. So, be certain you have the time to do so.
Also...
Try a New User:
Create a new user (for troubleshooting purposes) - see if it still happens. If so, then it is something created in your current user. So, you'd transfer everything over to that new user, and then delete this one you are currently using.
